She never kissed on
screen in Bollywood but she may...in Hollywood

Aishwarya Rai, one of the top stars of India’s prim
film industry, says in a television interview she won’t rule out
kissing in films when she moves from "Bollywood" to
Hollywood — although she says it is certain to create a minor
scandal among her fans.
In an interview on CBS’ "60 Minutes," Rai,
recently named by a British magazine as the world’s most beautiful
woman, danced around the subject of screen sex, which is banned in
India and many other countries where her films play.
"We’ll cross the bridge when we reach it,"
she said, adding, "We’ll work on the story, work on the scene.
I’ll work on the part and - and let’s see.
Rai, 31, stars in the new British film "Bride and
Prejudice," an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic tale, and is
considering several projects that will bring her to Hollywood.
She is virtually unknown in the United States even
though fans have created more than 17,000 Web sites devoted to her and
her beauty compared to Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman and Elizabeth
Taylor.
She has never kissed on screen -- not even after 24
films because kissing is taboo in the Indian cinema. Rai said if she
did kiss someone on screen in a Hollywood movie, it would create a
minor scandal among her fans.
"It would definitely be a topic of discussion.
... They’re going to enjoy (talking about it). ... In our society,
you don’t really see people around the street corner kissing or
being extremely or overtly physically demonstrative," she said.
Vivek Oberoi
adopts village

For the about 10,000 tsunami-devastated families of
Devanampattinam fishing hamlet, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi descended
like manna from heaven to provide relief.
Moved by their plight, the young actor who has been
working in Cuddalore for a few days, said that he had adopted the
village.
"We are going to rebuild their houses, give them
boats, fishing nets and utensils," the actor said.
Vivek Oberoi said he was also providing medicines.
"We will also finance education for the children of
fishermen," he said.
The actor said it was shattering to see so much
devastation.
He said Tamil Nadu Finance Minister C Ponnaiyan and
Education Minister C V Shanmugham and District Collector Gagandeep
Singh Bedi were with him during his visit to the affected hamlet and
helped him interact with the affected fisherfolk.
Bachchan moved by
tsunami tragedy
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, moved immensely by the
human tragedy unfolding in the aftermath of Boxing Day's tsunami, says
he would love to do whatever he can to help.
"Whatever is expected from me, whatever the
government wants me to do, I’m ready to do, no question about
that," says Amitabh.
Expressing grief and concern over the destruction and
death, Amitabh, says, "It’s so painful and such a tragedy....
To see the visuals of loss and grief every day on television is
extremely painful."
He speaks on behalf of Bollywood when he expresses his
concern.
"I’m forced to switch off my television. It’s
an unbelievable disaster. We mourn for those who’re affected and
pray for those who have recovered and lost dear ones. On a
humanitarian level we’re here to do whatever we can."
He says he would love to come forward with his
colleagues to help the victims.
"Every time there’s a calamity the film
industry comes forward to help. I’ve been reading and hearing some
comments this time to the effect that the assistance provided doesn’t
reach the right quarters.
"There should be a monitoring agency to make sure
that the relief reaches the distressed. Suddenly we’ve scores of
voluntary agencies coming up. We don’t know if they’re all
authentic and what’s the sphere of their functioning. How do we know
our good intentions are reaching those who need our help?
"The only foolproof way is to personally go to
the affected areas and start distributing food and clothes. That isn’t
possible.
"So, yes, we can put in money. But I repeat, we
need a monitoring agency. One solution is to have a corporate head
designated to monitor movement of all relief.."
Shah Rukh is most
hardworking

Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan lived up to his
reputation of being the most hardworking actor in Mumbai this year; he
appeared in three big-budget films.
First there was Main Hoon Na, in which he paired up
with Sushmita Sen for the first time ever. Then came Yashraj
Productions’ Deepavali offering titled Veer-Zaara. And finally he
was in Swades directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, the director who took
Lagaan to the Oscars.
Meanwhile, the ever gorgeous Aishwarya Rai spoke and
sang in English for the film Bride & Prejudice, directed by
Gurinder Chadha. Rai has also been chosen to play Mumtaz Mahal in a
Hollywood film based on the love story between Shah Jahan and Mumtaz
which resulted in the Taj Mahal.
Earlier this year, the film Chokher Bali starring Rai
was chosen as the opening film of the prestigious Indian Film Festival
of Los Angeles. While Rai did that film without any make-up on,
Kareena Kapoor upped the ante by discarding her Bollywood glamour to
act in the controversial Chameli where she played a prostitute.
The beautiful Aishwarya Rai sits in front of the even
more beautiful Taj Mahal.
The International Indian Film Awards was held in
Singapore for the first time in May this year. Bollywood stars visited
in droves and brought a touch of Indian glamour to the island state.
Meanwhile, stars like sexpot Mallika Sherawat, as well
as hunks Vivek Oberoi and Shahid Kapoor keep fuelling the tabloids
with their "maybe-maybe not romances".
